As Electrologists, we understand the emotional toll unwanted hair, in particular facial hair, can really have on one’s confidence and self- esteem. For us, it’s so much more than just about removing hair. It’s about showing compassion and care, ensuring you feel at ease and comfortable during your hair removal journey with us.

A safe and proven treatment

Electrolysis has been used to remove hair permanently since 1875 and has a long- established record of permanent hair removal. Today, it is one of the most sought after hair removal methods, gaining popularity for its versatility and excellent results.

In fact, electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method with a proven track record approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Here at Epilase, we choose to work with high quality medical grade devices that are safe on your skin and effective in treating the hair follicle. Our method of treatment is known as “progressive blend technique”. This method of treatment allows us to work with two type of electrical currents that is gentler on the skin providing greater results.

How it works

A very fine sterile probe is inserted into each individual hair follicle sending a tiny electrical current to the growth centre creating a heat and chemical reaction to destroy the stem cells and blood supply that allow the hair to grow.

You may experience a heat sensation or mild sting from the current which allows the hair to detach from the follicle and slide out with the aid of tweezers.

Treatment sessions can take from 5 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated and the extent of the hair growth.

Experienced Electrologists

Electrolysis is a treatment that requires knowledge, skill and patience, as well as years of hands on clinical experience; both of which Epilase owners Angela and Huma have acquired over the last 25 years. They have worked and trained under qualified reputable electrologists and now collaborate this experience to help hundreds of their own clients every day in their own business today.

“It is our mission to provide you with the best care and do everything we can to make you feel comfortable and to deliver results you’re thrilled with”

Consultation

The first step of your treatment process is to book a consultation. During the consultation, we will assess your hair and medical history, discuss the details of your treatment process, aftercare, and expected outcome. We then tailor a personalized treatment plan specifically for your individual concern/s.

Shorter treatments may be carried out on the same day of your consultation however for longer appointments, we schedule another day for a full treatment.

After each and every treatment, it is important that you follow our aftercare advice closely to ensure optimal healing and lasting results. We’ll explain the aftercare required when you visit our clinic.

Prior to your first appointment

Staying hydrated with drinking plenty of water during the course of your treatments is essential as dehydrated follicles are more difficult to treat. Hydration will also help your skin heal more quickly.

Most importantly, avoid tweezing, waxing or threading your hair before or between treatments as hair needs to be visible in order to be treated with electrolysis. These methods of removal also can make hair grow thicker.

If you want to remove hair from the surface between treatments, either shave or cut the hair short.

Prior to each session, skin must be clean and makeup free.

Electrolysis results require time and patience

Electrolysis is a treatment that requires time and patience. Although proven to be permanent, results do vary with every individual.

It is important to keep in mind that achieving “permanent” removal is not always possible however may be achievable long term. Therefore, consistent, regular treatments over a long period of time (at least one year) are essential in achieving the best outcome.

Firstly, for treatment to be successful, hair needs to be in the “right” cycle of growth. Hair on different parts of the face and body grow at various cycles, and for treatment to be effective, we need to catch the hair in its most active state.

Only then we are able to destroy the growth centre responsible for the hair growth. If not all cells are destroyed the hair may grow back finer, softer and lighter. With continued treatments, it will eventually result in the follicle being unable to produce another hair.

Also age, area of treatment, gender and hormonal imbalances as well as medication may all be contributing factors to the re-growth of future/new hairs.

As electrologists, we can only treat hairs that are visible on the surface of the skin. However, we have no control of future/dormant hair follicles that may stimulate a new hair growth due to changes that may occur in our body as far as hormones or health conditions are concerned.

As we progress with your treatments, you will begin to notice changes over the course of your treatments. The treated hairs will become weaker, finer and lighter and eventually the bulk begins to reduce.

Fortunately, each area of the face/body has a set amount of hair follicles and once most or all of the active hair follicles are successfully treated, the excess hair in that area will clear. The time necessary to complete a particular area depends on the severity of the growth, the cause, the type of hair and your sensitivity to treatment.

Treatment times will also become shorter as the hair begins to reduce and the interval between appointments become longer throughout your treatment period.

It is best to book in a consultation so we are able to properly assess the area of treatment, explain the treatment process in more detail and have a treatment plan that’s specific for your concerns.

Electrolysis Aftercare

  • You should avoid direct sun exposure for at least 1-2 weeks after every session
  • Be gentle with your skin. Use aloe vera gel or any other soothing lotions straight after your treatment and continue using for at least the next day. Cold compress or ice packs are also a great way to cool the treated area on the day and reduce heat and redness on the treated area.
  • Avoid tweezing and waxing between treatments. You may trim or shave the hair in between.
  • Avoid hot water when showering or washing your face for at least a few hours or until the next day as your skin may already be quite warm from treatment.
  • You may shower in luke warm water. Wash the treated area with a gentle cleanser and pat dry (do not rub).
  • Avoid active skincare or scrubs for at least 72hours post treatment
  • Avoid swimming pools and spas treated with chemicals or chlorine until the skin returns to its normal condition.
  • Sometimes your skin may have a mild breakout or you may experience small whiteheads appearing on treated areas. This usually subsides within a few days and skin does return back to its original state. Please avoid touching or squeezing or picking at the area. Contact the clinic to chat about what steps to take if this occurs.
  • For any adverse reactions that you are unsure of, please contact us immediately.
  • Avoid using active skincare or facial scrubs for 3 days and use a 30+ SPF sunscreen following your treatment

COMMON QUESTIONS

Electrolysis can deliver permanency because it effectively targets and eliminates each hair’s growth centre. Electrolysis treatment is the only proven method for permanent hair removal approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Furthermore, electrolysis treatment is highly effective and provides permanent results for all skin and hair colours and types.

Number of treatments do vary between individuals and can be directly influenced by area of treatment and hair cycle, hormones, what you have been doing to remove the hair in the past and the size of the area being treated. Generally it can take anywhere from 12-18 months for long term reduction and management.

You may feel a slight “sting” like sensation with each follicle being treated. Skin may feel warm after a treatment. In most cases, clients tolerate the treatment well. However, you may wish to apply a a topical anaesthetic cream such as ‘Emla’ to numb the area 30min prior to your treatment. Ask us for more information on this.

Treatment time depends on the area being treated and the amount of hair present. Hair on chin for example may take anywhere from 5-15 minutes. Treatment may be required on a fortnightly basis to target hair at its growth phase.

Scarring can occur when treatments are performed by therapists with very little experience in electrology, with poor insertion techniques or the use of high current. Scarring should not occur whilst having electrolysis.

Our electrologists are highly trained and experienced and take extra caution when treating to protect your skin as much as possible.

An important part of the skin’s healing process is aftercare. To ensure the best possible outcome and prevent scarring, it’s vital that clients practice good hygiene and follow our aftercare instructions carefully.

You’ll be given clear instructions on how to look after your skin post-treatment when you visit our clinic.

No. Electrolysis will not stimulate surrounding dormant follicles as the heat from the probe is concentrated on a single follicle only.

We at Epilase treat by time and the cost depends on the area being covered and how many follicles we are working with. During your initial consultation we are able to provide you with an estimate on how long it may take to treat your area of concern and the price.
