Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal treatment that targets individual hair follicles using a tiny sterile probe and gentle electrical current. It works on all hair and skin types—even fine, light, or grey hair—making it a precise solution for long-term results.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Electrolysis hair removal is a method of permanent hair removal that works by treating each individual hair follicle one at a time.

A very fine sterile probe is gently inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A small electrical current is then delivered to destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. Once the follicle is successfully treated, that hair will not grow back.

Electrolysis works on all hair colours (blonde, grey, red, white, dark and is suitable for all skin tones. Our focus is mainly treatment of facial hair including chin, upper lip, jawline, neck,  however we do often treat some body areas such as aereola, snail trail etc.

We offer treatments for hormonal hair growth (including clients with PCOS), fine or light hairs that laser cannot target ad well as clients who experienced laser stimulation.

Number of treatments do vary between individuals and can be directly influenced by area of treatment and hair cycle, hormones, what you have been doing to remove the hair in the past andhow dense your hair is. Generally it can take anywhere from 12-18 months for long term reduction and management.

You may feel a slight “sting” like sensation with each follicle being treated. Skin may feel warm after a treatment. In most cases, clients tolerate the treatment well. However, you may wish to apply a a topical anaesthetic cream such as ‘Emla’ to numb the area 30min prior to your treatment. Ask us for more information on this.

Treatment time depends on the area being treated and the amount of hair present. Hair on chin for example may take anywhere from 5-15 minutes. Treatment may be required on a fortnightly basis to target hair at its growth phase.

Scarring can occur when treatments are performed by therapists with very little experience in electrology, with poor insertion techniques or the use of high current. Scarring should not occur whilst having electrolysis.

Our electrologists are highly trained and experienced and take extra caution when treating to protect your skin as much as possible.

An important part of the skin’s healing process is aftercare. To ensure the best possible outcome and prevent scarring, it’s vital that clients practice good hygiene and follow our aftercare instructions carefully.

You’ll be given clear instructions on how to look after your skin post-treatment when you visit our clinic.

No. Electrolysis will not stimulate surrounding dormant follicles as the heat from the probe is concentrated on a single follicle only.

We at Epilase treat by time and the cost depends on the area being covered and how many follicles we are working with. During your initial consultation we are able to provide you with an estimate on how long it may take to treat your area of concern and the price.

Yes — electrolysis can absolutely work if you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

PCOS can raise androgen levels, which is why many women notice coarse, stubborn facial hair. The key thing to know is that electrolysis permanently destroys each individual follicle it treats. So once a hair has been successfully treated, that particular hair will not grow back — regardless of your hormones.

The only thing to keep in mind is this: electrolysis permanently removes the hairs that are currently there, but PCOS can sometimes trigger new hairs over time. That simply means you may need more regular sessions at the beginning, and possibly the occasional maintenance appointment if new growth appears later.

Experienced Electrologists

Electrolysis is a treatment that requires knowledge, skill and patience, as well as years of hands on clinical experience; both of which Epilase owners Angela and Huma have acquired over the last 25 years. They have worked and trained under qualified reputable electrologists and now collaborate this experience to help hundreds of their own clients every day in their own business today.

PCOS and Electrolysis

For individuals living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), unwanted facial hair can be a persistent and distressing concern due to elevated androgen levels stimulating coarse, excess growth. Electrolysis offers a highly effective and clinically proven solution because it permanently destroys each individual hair follicle, regardless of hormonal influence, hair colour, or skin type.

Unlike other methods that rely on pigment, electrolysis precisely targets the follicle itself, making it particularly beneficial for hormonally driven, resistant, soft, light, or grey hairs. While ongoing hormonal fluctuations may activate new follicles over time, PCOS can sometimes trigger new hairs over time. That simply means you may need more regular sessions at the beginning, and possibly the occasional maintenance appointment if new growth appears later.
